POCKET MONSTERS - ROCKET STRIKE ON MOON MOUNTAIN

THE LOST POKEMON TV MOVIE

Pokemon has become the massive franchise that has dominated the world now, but back in the 1990s, it was but a humble passion project by a few men. Because of this, the series early history has become lost through the cracks of time. This is an example of one of those lost pieces.

Prepare yourself for some serious shit!!

In 1997, a Pocket Monsters (Pokemon's name in Japan) TV special was released in 1997 on an unknown television station. It follows the adventures of Red, Green, & Blue as they scale Moon Mountain in the search to complete their Pokemon Journal, all the while stopping the Rocket Gang from kidnapping all the Pocket Monsters. The movie stands out a lot for being completely animated in 3D, likely using SGI Machines (as was standard at the time). The movie has been rumored to exist in the western fangroups for years due to its extreme rarity & lack of proper documentation (all of the info here comes from fan word & from watching the movie itself). These screenshots are the first of its kind to ever appear on the internet!

These screenshots of the movie come from a fansub copy that began floating around the end of 1997, spreading around the small group of Pocket Monster fans that made were around in the US before Pokemon's release & boom in popularity. Because of this, everythign in the movie uses the game's Japanese terminology & names, so you should probably familiarize yourself with their proper names before watching the movie. We'd also like to apologize for the copy's low-quality, as we purchased a higher-generation tape from an auction ran by an old-school fan.
